Original Item: Only One Available. Scarce original model 1898 U.S. Marine Corps Khaki Tropical Coat and Matching Trousers. This Uniform dates from 1898-1904 period, and was first fielded by Marines in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. This has features of an early coat such as the small pocket flaps, Early brass domed buttons (all marked HORSTMANN/PHILADELPHIA, No chest pleats, and a 1 ½” tall standing collar. Specifications from this period are particularly murky, but from what we have found, this is an earlier pattern jacket. For some, these circa 1900 khaki coats are considered the “holy grail” for collectors of U.S. Marine Corps material.
Coat is stamped with the Marine’s name G.Burton four times within the lining of the coat. No other markings can be found, as the tacked in paper label likely wore away years ago. Both Jacket and Trousers match condition from wear, age, and storage. Numerous stains, and areas of wear are evident on both garments.
Approximately Measurements Jacket: Shoulder to Sleeve: 23” Shoulder to Shoulder: 15” Chest Width: 17.5” Waist Width: 16” Hip Width: 19.5” Front Length: 29”
